# How do I customize imported pins?
## Set what every imported pin should be, for the whole import or pin by pin
When you import pins, you can decide what every pin should be before anything is created: the pin type, status, category, fields, description, worklog note, tags and whether it's private. Set it once for the whole import, or change individual pins. Pin settings work for both [spreadsheet imports](https://knowledge.sitemarker.com/how-do-i-import-pins-from-a-spreadsheet-csv-or-pnezd?hsLang=en) and [photo imports](https://knowledge.sitemarker.com/how-do-i-import-pins-via-images?hsLang=en). Note that this can only be done on the web admin (app.sitemarker.com).
#### Set every pin the same
1. Start a pin import from the project's Maps tab and load your file.
2. Above the preview map, click **Pin settings**.
3. Choose **Every pin the same**.
4. Set the pin type, status, category and any other details. For example, mark every pin **Needs Action** and add a worklog note such as "Staked from survey file".
#### Change individual pins
1. In Pin settings, choose **Each pin on its own**. Every pin starts with the shared settings you just set.
2. Pick a pin from the list on the left and change what that pin should be. The pin type decides which fields appear. For example, a Tree pin shows Species, Grade, Rating and Trunk size.
3. Pins you change get a check mark, and the count at the top shows how many are customized.
4. Click **Done with edits**, check the preview, then click **Import**.
In this example, every pin is set to Needs Action with a worklog note. Point 1 becomes a Tree pin (White oak, Grade A, Good, 14 inch trunk). Below, Point 2 becomes a second Tree pin with different measurements (Sweetgum, Grade C, Poor, 8 inch trunk), and Point 3 stays a General pin with its own status, category and note (Corrected, Drainage, "Inlet grate clogged, cleared on site").
#### Things to know
- **Doing nothing changes nothing.** If you skip Pin settings, pins import as General pins, category Misc, status Observation.
- **Category can hold more than one.** Picking a new category adds it next to Misc. Uncheck Misc if you only want the new one.
- **A row's own description wins.** If your file has a description for a point, it stays with that pin. The default description only fills rows that have none.
- **Edited pins keep their settings.** Once you change a pin on its own, later changes to the shared settings no longer reach it. **Reset** returns it to the shared settings, and **Apply to all** copies its settings to every pin.
- **Switching modes keeps your work.** Your per-pin edits come back if you switch back to Each pin on its own.
- **Required fields no longer block imports.** Fill them in here and the import finishes.
- **Worklog notes.** If you leave the worklog note empty, no worklog is created, except the one that carries a photo or a survey description.
