How do I Import Pins Via Images?

If your images have location enabled, you can now upload those into Site Marker! (with limitations)

There are a few things that must be addressed before attempting to upload photos into Site Marker to turn into pins.

While you are taking photos there are a few ways to make sure location is enabled:

Apple: Turning location services on

Android: Turning location services on

Google: Turning location services on

As seen on IOS above, Android is very similar, you can see where the location is visible.

Below is a guide for sharing photos with location:

On the left photo: clicking the i on the bottom will show extra information, part being location. Clicking the share button in the bottom left brings you to the middle image.

Middle: If location is included, it will say so at the top. Clicking the Options button brings you to your preferences and the right image.

Right image: Here you can set if location is included in a share link and choose how you would like to share that photo. iCloud link works the best.

You can also share images with location via Google Photos.

Downloading Geotagged images to your computer:

Next, you have to download these items to your device.

iCloud: By default, downloading images from the share link with the location included will download this location metadata.

Google Drive and Photos: By default, images that were uploaded with geolocation will download with the same data.

Importing Photos as Pins in Site Marker:

Note: This feature is in beta and only available on web.

After creating/clicking on the project you wish you upload pins to, navigate to the Maps tab

Highlighted above is the Maps tab, and the icon that takes you to the "Import Pins" screen.

Here, you can either drag all of the images you want uploaded or click to open your file system.

After selecting the photos you wish to upload, the website might take a minute or two to populate the modal with all the information. Upon successful upload you will see this screen:

On this screen, there are a few things you will see:

  • You can see an image preview and count of images to be uploaded at the top
  • the icon on the bottom right side of the image shows geolocation is attached, you can click on this to see photo information to confirm.
  • The map is populated with where the image locations are
  • Another thing to note, each individual image will be uploaded as a separate pin under the parameters of:
    • General Pin
    • Observation
    • MISC category
  • All pins can be edited after the fact to change the information to what it should be. At the moment this tool is used to import single images into Site Marker as a pin.

After clicking "Import", the progress bar will appear and start creating the pins on your project. This may take some time depending on how many photos you are uploading.

From here, your project will look normal and include all of the pin you just uploaded!
